Evaluates the genetic diversity of the Canadian, and shows that the Morgan and Canadian are the most closely related of the North American breeds.

Canadian Livestock Records Corporation
 This organization maintains the registry on all Canadian Horses.  They have a searchable on-line database where the pedigrees, locations, and owner details of all registered Canadian Horses can be found.

Bill C-454 Second Reading
The second and very lengthy reading occurred May 5, 1999. This page contains a number of different speeches given by MPs from nearly every political party. Most spoke quite eloquently in favor of declaring the Canadian Horse as the National Horse of Canada. Unfortunately in the end the decision was not unanimous so this attempt failed. Bill S-22 (2001)
First reading, Tuesday, November 20, 2001. Presented by Murray Calder, MP. Bill S-22 is a Senate bill that prioritized his own Private Members bill, Bill C-311, which had first reading on March 28, 2001.

Bill S-22 (2002)
This Bill has now been changed back to a Private Members Bill and was brought forth again, by Murray Calder, Feb 8, 2002. It just narrowly passed its first reading. [Located around #1330].

Bill S-22 - National Horse of Canada Act
The February 18, 2002 taking of the deferred recorded division on the motion at the second reading stage of Bill S-22, under private members' business. The House was divided on the motion, which was agreed to on the following division : 150 Yeas, and 42 Nays. The Bill was deemed as passed and referred to the Standing Committee on Canadian Heritage for further discussion (discussed and passed April 10, 2002).

Bill S-22 - Vote
Final results from the vote taken in Parliament Tuesday, April 23, 2002. The results were 166 for, and 58 against. The Bill was declared officially as being passed on that day.

Royal Assent Given
The Royal Assent was given to Bill S-22 April 30, 2002. This officially made the National Horse of Canada act, law.
